Bi-Monthly Meeting Explores Business and Technology Implications of Emerging Semantic Technology Standards and Tools

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- SDForum, Silicon Valley's leading source of information and education in the technology community, today announced the formation of the Semantic Web special interest group (SIG). The first meeting offers a great opportunity for the Silicon Valley technology community to engage in dialogue with world recognized Semantic Web experts. The SIG meeting is May 22, 2007 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.
The Semantic Web SIG will be facilitated by SIG co-chairs Jeff Pollock, senior director at Oracle, and Dr. AJ Chen, senior search engineer at Healthline.com. Dr. Chen applies ontology for developing search engines focusing on consumer healthcare. He is known for working with a variety of open communities and open source software.
"It is important to experiment with new and practical approaches that will make semantic data a web reality," said Dr. Chen. "Semantic technology is influencing the basic organization and management of many aspects of our daily lives such as our healthcare system, government agencies, enterprise software tools and consumer applications."
As many sites choose from a variety of software applications it is important that there is a standard mode of translation in existence. The solution must be able to capture the most important information from all the languages. SIG speakers will be asked to forecast the future of Semantic Web trends and the possible impact they may have for developers and the general public.
